Summit View Goals and Values:

Mission Statement:

The mission of SVHS is to provide educational opportunities to students whose needs are not met by the traditional high school program.

Vision Statement:

SVHS is an individualized learning environment that encourages academic and personal  growth to prepare students for the challenges of the future.

Summit View is an incredible place to be for several reasons. First, as you can see from the statements above, we get to think a little out of the box in how we help students learn.  Our curriculum is adapted to each student and the teachers excel in explaining content in 1 on 1 settings.  Next, we get to spend our time focusing on the student learning.  We don’t offer sports, or assemblies, or even have bussing.  We don’t get distracted from the main reason we are here, which is to help prepare kids for what is next in their lives.

As the Principal, I firmly believe in shared decision making and making decisions for what is best for student learning.  Staff and parents should collaborate to do what is best for the students.  I have an open door policy and encourage people to come chat with me about anything they have on their mind.

At Summit View we are not going to be ‘victims’ and will not focus on things that are out of control.  We will be relentless in getting students to progress in their education.  Students are taught and encouraged to persevere through challenges. This is seen in our R.I.S.E. acronym, which is shared frequently (Responsibility, Integrity, Success Mindset, Excellence).

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.  Also, please follow us @PrincipalSVHS on Twitter and Facebook.

Personal Information:

I grew up in Kennewick, Washington and had an excellent school experience. I had teachers and coaches that cared about me.  Their level of investment into me and the life lessons have guided my career as an educator. After high school I attended Washington State University in Pullman.  There I earned a B.A. in Social Studies Education.  I also began my career in working with kids by coaching basketball at Moscow High School.  I was fortunate to land a teaching job at Battle Ground High School after student teaching at North Central High School in Spokane.  I taught for 9 years at Battle Ground High and Lewisville Middle School. I also served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, STRIPES Mentoring Advisor and Administrative Intern.  My first job as an Assistant Principal was at Chief Umtuch Middle School. I only stayed there a year, moving on to be Assistant Principal and Athletic  Director at Prairie High School for 3 years.  Next, I did another 1 year stint at Pleasant Valley Middle School.  Finally, I was honored to be hired to be the Principal at Summit View.

I have been married since 2006 to my lovely wife Colleen who is a School Counselor.  It is pretty cool to be married to someone who shares my belief and passion for helping kids.  We have 3 children; Peyton (7), Addie (4) and Griffin (1).
