Volunteer
Volunteers make the difference! From kindergarten to high school and taking on a variety of roles, volunteers from the community help our students succeed.
You don’t need teaching or professional experience to volunteer. The most important qualification is a genuine interest in helping our students and teachers maximize their potential. Recruitment and placement of volunteers is done at the school building level. Community volunteers frequently connect with a school that is close to their home or place of work, or choose an age level of students with which they prefer to work. Before you contact one of our schools about volunteer opportunities, please complete the clearance process below if you are hoping to volunteer in a classroom or for a daytime field trip.
If you are interested in volunteering as a coach or for an overnight field trip, please contact the school at which you wish to volunteer to see what type of clearance will be needed. There may be a cost associated with the required clearance.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old.
Complete the volunteer clearance process prior to being assigned to a volunteer position within the district.
Volunteer clearance process
Step 1. Read the volunteer handbook/expectations agreement.
Step 2. Complete the volunteer application form, which includes the volunteer disclosure form. If you are a paid employee of Battle Ground Public Schools, fill out the volunteer application form-staff.
Step 3. Visit the school office you want to volunteer with and present your valid Washington photo identification*. This must be done in person. Once validated, it takes approximately 5-7 business days to complete the criminal history background check.
*Out-of-state residents, please contact the school’s secretary for instructions for starting the out-of-state volunteer application, which is a different process and includes a fee for a background check.
Fees
There is no fee for completing the volunteer application form.
Some volunteer positions may require additional clearances that have an associated fee. These include volunteer coaching positions, chaperones for overnight trips and volunteers approved to transport students.
Vaccines
Volunteers and/or guest speakers are no longer required to provide proof of COVID vaccination.
Sign in and out
For safety and security reasons on campuses, all volunteers, guest speakers and career fair participants are required to sign in out at school offices.
Volunteers working in classrooms will NOT be alone with students at any time while on campus and have completed all requirements for volunteering.
Personal information
The information disclosed through the clearance process will be used only to determine eligibility to volunteer, and will not be used or disseminated for any other purposes. The clearance process includes a criminal history background check.
Criminal history background check
Battle Ground Public Schools requests out-of-state records of criminal convictions for felony crimes. If the report shows evidence of a criminal history background and we are unable to consider you for volunteering in Battle Ground Public Schools, you will be notified. Volunteers are welcome to request a copy of their criminal history background records.
Volunteer clearance is valid for two years from the issue date.
Volunteer disclosure form
This form is included in the online volunteer application and is required by law.
Volunteer handbook/expectations agreement
By submitting your application to volunteer for Battle Ground Public Schools, you verify that you have read and understand the expectations and appropriate behaviors while volunteering with BGPS.
