Take a musical trip back to 1910 England with everyone’s favorite flying nanny as Prairie High School presents “Mary Poppins” this November.
Based on the series of books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, “Mary Poppins” has delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and won more than a dozen awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. You might say it’s “practically perfect!”
“We can’t wait to welcome you into Mary’s magical world!” said Prairie Drama director Claire Verity.
Follow jack-of-all trades Bert as he takes the audience around merry ol’ England, introducing us to the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael are seemingly impossible to control, sending nanny after nanny packing until the magical Mary Poppins arrives via her flying umbrella to set things “spit spot.” But Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones Mary has to help. Even grownups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who tells us, “Anything can happen, if you let it.”
Shows will be Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 15-16 and 22-23*, at 7 p.m., with additional 1 p.m. matinees on Saturday. Be sure to grab your tickets soon, because they’ll be going fast! Ticket prices are $7 for students, $15 for adults and $12 for honored citizens.
“Mary Poppins” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theater International.
*The 1 p.m. showing on Saturday, Nov. 23 will include sign language interpreters.
